What is urea cream used for? ›

Urea cream helps soften dry, rough or thick skin as a result of eczema, psoriasis or other skin conditions. It can also help with non-surgical nail removal. This cream works best if you apply it to your skin while your skin is damp, like after a bath or shower.

Avoid sensitive areas such as your eyes, lips, inside your mouth/nose, and the vagin*l/groin area, unless your doctor directs you otherwise.

According to the Cosmetics Info database, short- and long-term studies have found that even in large doses, urea seems to be safe for topical use with a low risk of side effects. In some cases, urea may cause mild skin irritation and symptoms like stinging, itching, or burning.

In skincare, urea is often used in body cleansers and moisturizers for its unique combination of moisturizing and exfoliating benefits. At higher concentrations, this ingredient is a keratolytic agent, meaning it can help reduce dead skin buildup on your skin's surface.

Dermetazole (ketoconazole / urea) shouldn't be used to treat a bacterial skin infection. It only works against fungi and is only meant to help with fighting off a fungal skin infection.
